What Sets OVO Energy Apart?
OVO Energy Australia broke into the energy market in 2019, expanding from its roots as a UK energy provider, where it has been operating since 2009.
They stood out from other providers because they have a single, simple energy plan available to customers in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia. Since then, they have added a solar and EV plan to further their focus on renewable energy.
Who Owns OVO Energy?
OVO Energy in Australia is owned by AGL Energy through a step by step takeover.
AGL first took a majority stake in the Australian OVO business in 2021. Control shifted at that point, while the brand continued to operate locally. In 2024, AGL completed the process and took full ownership.
Since then the Australian OVO operation has been absorbed into AGL’s wider retail business. Customer accounts and services are now managed under the AGL group rather than as a separate retailer.
