What Sets Powershop Apart?

Powershop gives customers a clear view of how they use energy. Usage can be checked day by day rather than guessed at bill time.

The mobile app is central to the experience. It shows usage, bills, and solar exports in one place. Customers can also choose to pay for energy ahead of time through Powerpacks.

Choice stays flexible. There are no lock in contracts or exit fees, which allows households to try the service without long term commitment.

Extra features round it out. Eligible customers can access free smart meter installation and optional packs that support renewable energy or community projects.

Who Owns Powershop?

Powershop Australia is now part of the Shell Energy Australia group, after being purchased in 2021 from New Zealand’s Meridian Group. The purchase by Shell meant that the company’s Green Electricity rating dropped, however, they remain committed to sustainable practices such as supporting the net-zero target, providing carbon-neutral energy plans and investing in solutions that support decarbonisation.

Where are Powershop Plans Available?

Powershop supplies electricity to households in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia. Gas plans are more limited and are currently offered only in Victoria.

Availability can vary by network and postcode. Some plans may not be offered in every suburb, even within these states.

The Powershop Energy App

Powershop customers can access the cutting-edge app to help track and control energy usage, access rewards and maximise their savings. The app works with your smart meter to show you when you could be wasting energy, how much energy you’ve used and how much solar power you have generated.

You can also manage your account and purchase PowerPacks for full control of your energy bills.

What Are Powershop Energy PowerPacks?

Access discounts on your Powershop rates by purchasing energy in Powerpacks, which come in various dollar amounts with a range of different discounts to suit your budget and the amount of power you need.

You can buy Powerpacks through your online account or the Powershop app. Look out for Special Packs for low Powershop electricity rates to boost your savings, as well as Top Up Packs, GreenPower Packs and Future Packs.

Solar Power Plans

If you have solar panels installed at your home, you can benefit from Powershop Australia’s competitive solar feed-in tariffs and detailed solar insights in the app.

When your solar panels are installed, you will most likely get a net meter. A net meter allows you to be paid for the excess energy you generate and export to the grid. With the Powershop app, you can track exactly how much energy you are using and exporting from your solar power system and optimise your solar’s performance.

Why Choose Powershop?

Powershop appeals to households that want to stay aware of their energy use. The service is designed to show costs as they build rather than waiting for the bill.

Energy management happens in one place. Usage, charges and payments are handled through a single system that gives customers regular insight into their account.

Plans do not include lock in contracts or exit fees, which gives households room to reassess over time.

There are also optional extras. Eligible customers can access a smart meter at no cost and choose add ons that support renewable or community energy programs.

GreenPower plans

Powershop offers residential and business customers the option to purchase GreenPower to minimise the impact of their energy plan on the environment.

GreenPower works by surrendering additional RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates), above the minimum amount required by the Renewable Energy Target. One REC represents one MWh of electricity generated by a GreenPower-accredited renewable energy source.

Making your energy plans a GreenPower plan helps to drive growth in Australia’s renewable energy sector and encourage investment and promotion of clean energy.

You can purchase GreenPower by buying a Powershop energy PowerPack, either online through your account or on the Powershop app. Once purchased, Powershop will surrender RECs on your behalf to match the amount of energy in your PowerPack.

For internet and mobile, you can bundle your NBN plan or phone plan with energy to get a lower monthly cost. A modem can be added when you sign up. Mobile customers can also save around $10 a month when they connect both services.

AGL also offers solar and battery bundles. These come ready to install and may include systems like the Tesla Powerwall or Sungrow battery. Some customers can join AGL’s Virtual Power Plant program to share stored energy and earn extra savings.

There are a few other bundles too. Some energy plans include Netflix access or let you earn fuel credits through BP Rewards.

Powershop GreenPower for Businesses

You can support GreenPower through your business by purchasing GreenPower PowerPacks. If 10% or more of your annual electricity usage is through GreenPower, then you will become eligible to use the GreenPower logo on your marketing materials to promote your commitment to a renewable future.

If 50% or more of your electricity usage is through GreenPower, you can list your business on the government’s GreenPower website and receive a GreenPower promotional pack to promote your support to your customers.

If you meet the minimum eligibility requirements, go to the GreenPower website to apply for the GreenPower logo and benefits.

Powershop EV Plans

A good EV plan means lower costs when you charge. Powershop EV Plans give you two clear options. You can choose free charging at midday or a cheaper rate after midnight. These plans are available across NSW, Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia.
