What Sets OVO Energy Apart?

OVO Energy Australia broke into the energy market in 2019, expanding from its roots as a UK energy provider, where it has been operating since 2009.

Which States is CovaU Available In?

CovaU offers cheap electricity and gas plans to homes and businesses in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, the ACT and South Australia. 

CovaU is currently not on the CheapBills panel, however you can enter your postcode to see what providers and plans with CheapBills are available in your area.

CovaU Electricity Plans

CovaU lets households across several Australian states pick the electricity plans that best fit their needs and wallets. Most of their plans come with variable rates, single rate tariffs and the option to put the extra power back into the system if you’ve got solar which helps keep costs down and the lights on. Below is a rundown of which plans are available in each state.

New South Wales (NSW)

CovaU offers two residential electricity plans in NSW. The Freedom Residential plan includes credit card fees, variable rates, and a single rate tariff with a solar feed-in tariff of 5.5c/kWh. It is priced at 5% less than the reference price, with an estimated annual cost of $1,860. The Basics Residential Single plan also has variable rates and a single rate tariff with the same feed-in tariff of 5.5c/kWh. It sits 2% below the reference price and costs around $1,930 per year.

Victoria (VIC)

In Victoria, CovaU provides two single rate electricity plans with variable pricing. The Basics Residential Single plan matches the Victorian Default Offer (VDO) and has a feed-in tariff of 4.9c/kWh, with an estimated annual cost of $1,550. The Super Saver Residential Single plan, which includes credit card fees, also offers variable rates and the same feed-in tariff. It is 27% higher than the Victorian Default Offer, with an annual cost of $1,960.

Queensland (QLD)

Queensland customers can choose between two variable single rate plans from CovaU, both with no disconnection fees. The Freedom Residential plan includes credit card fees and has a feed-in tariff of 5.5c/kWh. It is 6% below the reference price, with an annual cost of $2,020. The Basics Residential Single plan has the same feed-in rate of 5.5c/kWh and is 3% lower than the reference price, costing around $2,080 each year.

South Australia (SA)

In South Australia, CovaU offers two single rate electricity plans with variable rates and a feed-in tariff of 5.5c/kWh. The Basics Residential Single plan is 4% cheaper than the reference price, with an annual cost of $2,220. The Freedom Residential plan includes credit card fees and is priced 2% below the reference price, coming to about $2,250 per year.

Tasmania (TAS)

Tasmanian customers have access to two variable single rate plans from CovaU. The Freedom Residential plan includes credit card fees and a feed-in tariff of 8.94c/kWh. It is priced 3% above the reference price, with an estimated annual cost of $2,420. The Basics Residential Anytime plan has the same feed-in rate and sits 6% higher than the reference price, with an annual cost of $2,490.

CovaU Gas Plans

CovaU offers residential gas plans in a few states, with all of them having simple single rate tariffs and variable pricing. Each plan comes with a daily supply and usage charge. These rates can vary depending on where you live, so you can find one that suits your household. Here are the details on CovaU’s residential gas plans broken down by state.

New South Wales (NSW)

For New South Wales, CovaU’s got two simple gas plans to choose from. Both of these plans use a single rate tariff and have variable rates. There’s the “Freedom Residential” plan which does come with a credit card fee, costs 70.4c a day in supply charges and, depending where you live, will cost from 3.41c to 4.62c per megajoule (MJ) in usage charges. The typical annual cost of this plan comes in around $920. The “Basics Residential” plan, on the other hand has variable rates and a single rate tariff. It comes with a daily supply charge of 73.7c and a usage charge which can range from 4.26 to 6.09c per MJ. It costs around $1,260 a year.

Victoria (VIC)

In Victoria, CovaU provides two residential gas plans under the AGN network, both with variable pricing and a single rate tariff. The Super Saver Residential Gas plan includes a credit card fee and has a supply charge of 88c per day with usage rates between 2.84 and 3.41c per MJ. The estimated annual cost for this plan is $650. The Basics Residential Gas AGN plan also features variable rates, with a daily supply charge of 96.8c and usage rates between 4.51 and 5.72c per MJ. The typical yearly cost for this plan is $1,120.

Queensland (QLD)

CovaU offers two residential gas options in Queensland. The Freedom Residential plan includes a credit card fee and runs on a single rate tariff with a daily supply charge of 67.1c and usage rates between 4.76 and 7.5c per MJ. The estimated annual cost for this plan is $1,040. The Basics Residential Gas AGN plan also uses variable rates with a supply charge of 84.42c per day and usage rates between 5.34 and 8.52c per MJ, with an annual cost of $1,230.

South Australia (SA)

South Australian customers can choose between two variable gas plans from CovaU. The Freedom Residential plan includes a credit card fee, with a supply charge of 90.33c per day and usage rates between 2.96 and 7c per MJ. The annual cost for this plan is estimated at $1,200. The Basics Residential Gas plan offers a similar single rate structure, with a daily supply charge of 84.48c and usage rates between 4.07 and 6.49c per MJ, resulting in a yearly cost of $1,220.

Solar Options with CovaU

CovaU does not offer separate solar energy plans, but customers can still take advantage of solar feed-in tariffs (FiTs) through its standard electricity plans. These FiTs provide credits for any unused electricity that is sent back to the grid. The rates differ by state, with New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia offering 5.5 cents per kilowatt-hour, Victoria at 4.9 cents per kilowatt-hour, and Tasmania providing the highest rate at 8.94 cents per kilowatt-hour.
