What Sets ActewAGL Apart?

ActewAGL takes a local approach to energy supply. Its services are focused on the ACT, which shapes how plans and support are designed.

The ownership structure is also different. Public ownership sits alongside private sector involvement. This brings community priorities together with established energy operations.

Local knowledge matters. ActewAGL works within the ACT network and understands how pricing and infrastructure operate in the region.

ActewAGL offers more than electricity and gas plans. It also provides energy efficiency support and business energy services for customers in the ACT.

Who Owns ActewAGL?

ActewAGL is owned through a shared structure. The business is split  between two owners.

Half of ActewAGL is owned by Icon Water. Icon Water is fully owned by the ACT Government.

The remaining half is owned by AGL Energy. This arrangement combines public ownership with private sector involvement in supplying electricity and gas in the ACT and nearby regions.

Is ActewAGL The Same As AGL?

ActewAGL was formed in 2000 through Australia’s first utility joint venture between Australian Gas Light Company (AGL) and Icon Water Limited (formerly Actew), however, their history spans more than a century, starting when the Kingston Powerhouse was built to supply power to the newly established ACT.

Their retail operations are currently owned 50 per cent by AGL Energy Ltd and 50 per cent by Icon Water Limited, an ACT government-owned corporation.

Business Energy Solutions From ActewAGL

ActewAGL offers energy solutions for businesses across the ACT. These services suit offices, retail sites, and larger commercial spaces that want clearer control over energy use.

Energy efficiency services help businesses see where power is being used and where changes may help. This can include reviewing current systems and suggesting upgrades that match the size and function of the site.

Commercial solar solutions are also available. These systems suit rooftops and larger areas, allowing businesses to produce part of their own electricity and rely less on grid supply.

Lighting upgrades support workplaces using older fittings. Updated lighting can reduce energy use and improve visibility throughout work areas.

Commercial EV charging is available for businesses planning ahead. These solutions support electric vehicles used by staff or fleets, with charging options suited to different sites and usage needs.

Is ActewAGL Carbon-Neutral?

ActewAGL has been independently certified by Climate Active and has achieved net zero emission across its operations and products by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and purchasing eligible carbon offset units.

Customers who are interested in contributing to Australia’s net zero goal by 2050 can choose ActewAGL’s Carbon Neutral Gas option as an add-on to any gas account. For $1.50 per week, the carbon emissions from your gas usage will be cancelled out with the equivalent amount of carbon offsets.

You can also choose to add the Greenchoice program to your energy plan to support renewable energy. You can choose the amount of your energy that you want to add to Greenchoice, and the equivalent amount of energy generated by renewable sources will be added to the grid.

How Can ActewAGL Help Make My Energy Clean?

Solar Hub and ActewAGL have come together to create the Smart Energy Hub. The aim is simple. Help households understand which changes will make the biggest difference to how energy is used at home without pushing costs too high.

The Solar Hub team provides guidance on options such as solar panels, batteries, inverters, air conditioners, EV chargers, hot water systems, and induction cooktops. They also help customers choose an ActewAGL energy plan and a finance option that suits their home, with a focus on long term value and everyday costs.

ActewAGL Bundles

ActewAGL offers electricity and gas bundles for households that use both services. One provider. One account. One set of bills.

Bundling electricity and gas keeps things simple. Plans are set up for homes in the ACT and nearby regions. Availability depends on location and network, but many households can combine both services under the same plan.

This approach suits customers who want fewer accounts to manage and a clearer view of their energy use.
