What Sets ActewAGL Apart?
ActewAGL takes a local approach to energy supply. Its services are focused on the ACT, which shapes how plans and support are designed.
The ownership structure is also different. Public ownership sits alongside private sector involvement. This brings community priorities together with established energy operations.
Local knowledge matters. ActewAGL works within the ACT network and understands how pricing and infrastructure operate in the region.
ActewAGL offers more than electricity and gas plans. It also provides energy efficiency support and business energy services for customers in the ACT.
Who Owns ActewAGL?
ActewAGL is owned through a shared structure. The business is split between two owners.
Half of ActewAGL is owned by Icon Water. Icon Water is fully owned by the ACT Government.
The remaining half is owned by AGL Energy. This arrangement combines public ownership with private sector involvement in supplying electricity and gas in the ACT and nearby regions.
Where are ActewAGL Plans Available?
ActewAGL is Canberra’s local choice of energy retailer. Residents of the Canberra region and nearby areas in the south-east NSW region, including Queanbeyan, Goulburn, the Snowys, Nowra and the South Coast, can compare energy plans from ActewAGL to find great rates.Â

Is ActewAGL The Same As AGL?
ActewAGL was formed in 2000 through Australia’s first utility joint venture between Australian Gas Light Company (AGL) and Icon Water Limited (formerly Actew), however, their history spans more than a century, starting when the Kingston Powerhouse was built to supply power to the newly established ACT.Â
Their retail operations are currently owned 50 per cent by AGL Energy Ltd and 50 per cent by Icon Water Limited, an ACT government-owned corporation.
