How AGL Operates

AGL operates  the largest energy generation portfolio in Australia and offers a diverse range of plans tailored to residential, small and large business, and wholesale consumers, including both fixed and flexible options. With their wide range of products, there are also substantial savings to be made by choosing a ‘Bundle and Save’ plan for cheap electricity and gas, NBN internet and/or mobile.

Their history dates back over 185 years to 1837, so they hold a significant position in the Australian energy landscape. In fact, they were the ones to connect power to Sydney’s very first street lamp back in 1841.

Despite their heritage, AGL remains dedicated to progress by driving innovation, supporting charitable causes and fostering sustainable and clean energy sources.

Can I Make My AGL Plan Green?

If you are interested in clean energy for your home or business, then you will be happy to know that AGL is the biggest ASX-listed investor in renewable energy. They are one of Australia’s biggest developers of renewable energy technologies and are taking action to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. AGL’s current renewable energy generators include hydro power, wind and solar energy.

In addition, customers can choose to make their energy plan carbon-neutral at no extra cost or opt for an AGL Green Choice plan, where you can connect electricity with a guarantee that 10%, 20% or 100% of your electricity usage is supplied from renewable energy sources.

AGL and Smart Meters

Smart meters allow you to keep better tabs on and monitor your energy use. Our smart meters are available to customers to enable you to see your energy usage in real-time. With a smart meter, you don’t have to send in readings, and estimated bills don’t happen manually. Smart meters give you an accurate way to pay for your energy use and tell you when you use the most. Using AGL’s app or customer portal, you too can access your usage data online and oversee how you’re using your energy and how you can reduce your bills. They also let you have time-of-use tariffs, which will save you even more if you use the energy during off peak times.

Why Should I Choose AGL?

AGL Bundles

AGL gives you a few ways to combine its services. You can link your energy plan with internet, mobile, or solar options to make things simpler and save money. Some bundles offer a $15 monthly discount on internet when paired with an AGL energy plan. Others include full solar packages with panels, batteries and inverters. You can buy them outright or pay over time.

For internet and mobile, you can bundle your NBN plan or phone plan with energy to get a lower monthly cost. A modem can be added when you sign up. Mobile customers can also save around $10 a month when they connect both services.

AGL also offers solar and battery bundles. These come ready to install and may include systems like the Tesla Powerwall or Sungrow battery. Some customers can join AGL’s Virtual Power Plant program to share stored energy and earn extra savings.

There are a few other bundles too. Some energy plans include Netflix access or let you earn fuel credits through BP Rewards.

AGL Gas and Solar Options

AGL supplies natural gas plans across the country that align with its electricity offers, including the Residential Smart Saver, which features straightforward rates and billing.

For solar customers, all AGL market plans include a feed-in tariff, while the Solar Savers plan offers a higher rate for the first portion of energy sent back to the grid each day. Under this plan, customers receive 8c per kWh for the first 10kWh exported daily, followed by the standard rate for the rest.

Standard solar feed-in tariffs vary by state.
In New South Wales, the rate is 4c/kWh.
In Victoria, it’s 1.5c/kWh, while South Australian customers receive 2c/kWh and
Queensland customers get 3c/kWh. After the first 10kWh each day, the standard rate applies in every state.
